Sandra Burton: 39 Years of Style, Dedication, and Impact

For nearly four decades, Sandra Burton has offered quiet strength to Magdala House and those we serve. What began as a simple job turned into a calling, and nearly four decades later, her dedication, kindness, and unwavering belief in the power of second chances have touched more lives than she can count.

Sandra had never stayed at a job for more than five years before Magdala House. Her kids still chuckle about how she “never planned” to stay this long. But time moves differently when you find a place where your work truly matters. Before she knew it, ten years had passed. Then twenty. Then thirty. And today, we celebrate her 39th anniversary with gratitude, admiration, and joy.

Sandra’s journey at Magdala House began as a program secretary for the women’s halfway house, a role that quickly led her to the MRRD Program—now known as the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Program. From the very beginning, she saw firsthand the impact of Magdala House’s work. The office was always alive with people seeking support, whether it was counseling, addiction recovery, parenting classes, or family therapy. It was in those moments, witnessing the strength of those struggling to rebuild their lives, that Sandra’s perspective on people changed forever.

“Everyone has a story, and everyone has made mistakes. We are human, and everyone deserves second chances.”

A Career Built on Compassion

Sandra has been a steadfast presence through every transformation Magdala House has undergone. When Sandra first started at Magdala, typewriters filled the office. Now, she’s navigating computers, proving that growth never stops – for her or Magdala House. She has uplifted everyone she’s come in contact with and the incredible individuals in the IDD program, whom she describes as intelligent, kind, and deeply inspiring. And today, as Magdala House expands its mission to provide shelter for the unhoused, she stands in awe and gratitude for the growth Magdala has amassed in over 50 years.

“The changes are for the good. It touches my heart. Now the homeless have a place to go.”

Sandra’s work hasn’t just been about showing up—it’s been about showing up with love. And she does so in style! Known for her impeccable fashion sense, Sandra is always dressed in stylish suits, elegant dresses, and statement hats—often paired with her signature six-inch heels. Her grace and confidence shine as brightly as her compassion, making her a true force at Magdala House. She has poured into clients and coworkers alike, offering kindness, encouragement, and an unwavering belief in the power of transformation.
