A Foundation For

ISL Residences

Independent Supported Living is similar to our group homes, but allows no more than four individuals sharing a residence.

About Independent Supported Living

Independent Supported Living (ISL) offers individuals with disabilities an opportunity for increased decisions consistent with the choices afforded citizens without disabilities. Individual decisions relate to opportunities for expressing their individuality and gaining greater access to the community than would have been possible in the group homes.

This program promotes individuality and personal freedom based on the resident’s needs. Magdala offers and supports skill training such as community transportation, education, employment, and recreational resources.

“Implementing ISLs will increase individual choice, provide enhanced privacy and flexibility, and complement Magdala’s professional service delivery.”

— Thomas Mangogna, President & CEO, Magdala

Residents live in regular homes and neighborhoods, and Magdala helps them make connections within their communities. Magdala staff members work hard to ensure that homes in our Community Living program are well-maintained and part of the neighborhood. There are typically three or four residents living in each house.

Magdala staff will collaborate with families, schools, employers, friends, and all of the people involved in the individual’s life to develop a plan that fits their needs. Skills we commonly focus on: socialization, medication management, personal hygiene, recreation, cleaning, cooking, nutrition, budgeting, banking, and accessing transportation.

Independent Supported Living Admission Criteria

24-hour support can be extremely expensive. Funding for your family member can be provided through the Department of Mental Health Medicaid Waiver program. ISL services may also be privately paid. Residents must be 18 years or older, have an Intellectual disabled/dual diagnosis, and obtain a medical waiver funded through the Department of Mental Health or private pay.
