Meet Hailey, our dedicated Occupational Therapist, at our Tiny Homes location, whose passion for helping others has guided her throughout her career. Hailey’s journey into occupational therapy began in high school when her admiration for a cousin in the field inspired her to explore a career that combines creativity, science, and a holistic approach to care.
With a degree in Exercise Science from Arkansas State and a Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Washington University, Hailey’s commitment to learning has never wavered. She’s worked with a variety of populations, but her role at Magdala House has been uniquely rewarding.
“I love that occupational therapy looks at the whole person,” Hailey says. “It’s not just about treating one issue—it’s about understanding how someone’s physical, emotional, and environmental challenges intersect.”
At Tiny Homes, Hailey’s work goes beyond traditional therapy sessions. She builds deep, trusting relationships with her clients, helping them regain control over their daily lives. She:
- Helps clients prepare healthy meals, teaching essential cooking skills that promote self-sufficiency and wellness.
- Empowers clients to stand up for themselves, guiding them to advocate for their needs in healthcare settings and personal situations.
- Leads community-building activities, where clients learn what it means to be part of a supportive network and take steps to foster a sense of belonging.
- Supports client-driven initiatives, like organizing a talent show that allowed participants to showcase their skills and gain confidence.
Her favorite moments are the “lightbulb moments,” when clients realize their potential and take meaningful steps toward independence. While many clients face a range of challenges, Hailey’s support has empowered them to make remarkable strides in rebuilding their lives.
Hailey’s approach is all about fostering independence and helping clients become active partners in their own care. “I want my clients to feel confident that they can manage their lives,” she explains.
Despite the challenges of working with trauma survivors, Hailey finds her role incredibly fulfilling. “It’s not easy, but the support from my team and the positive feedback from clients keep me going,” she shares.
In her spare time, Hailey is eager to learn new techniques that can benefit her clients, from physical rehabilitation strategies to mental health support. She looks forward to integrating more physical therapy techniques into her work, especially for those recovering from neurological conditions or injuries.
Hailey’s dedication to her clients and her innovative approach to occupational therapy makes her an invaluable member of the Magdala team. We are grateful to have her!
